Meet 'Tyr'

Say hello to Tyr (pronounced "teer"), the newest, and probably final, member of the Cirrus Crew.

The Meerenians are a species of tall faerie-like humanoids who hail from the low-gravity world of New Meeren. They are known primarily for their scientific and technological prowess. They additionally have a reputation as expert scouts and stealthers, who are represented in the Meerenian Ranger Corps. They are Meeren's only ground-based military organization, and members are often selected to act as scouts in the Squadron Alliance military. Rangers, both current and retired, maintain a flat braid in front of their left ear, with a red cord woven into it.

Tyr was one such Ranger, for a time.

From 08:00-10:00 hours, 2.17.46, Rangers second battalion, (REDACTED) platoon was scheduled for field testing of two pre-production energy weapons (serial numbers [REDACTED]-B and [REDACTED]-D).

Sustained firing of (REDACTED)-B by Ranger (Tyr) resulted in unforeseen detonation of the weapon. EOD analysis indicates the blast originated in the pre-fire capacitor. Recommend discontinuation of pre-production run of (REDACTED)-B pending investigation.

Ranger (Tyr) sustained severe trauma as a result of the detonation and is receiving preliminary treatment in the Beta Site infirmary.

Patient: Ranger TYR-(REDACTED)

Patient has sustained mild plasma burns on right bicep, left hand, left forearm, and face, resulting in permanent blindness of the right eye. Patient has sustained severe plasma burns on right forearm and right shoulder. Right hand vaporized at the wrist by plasma discharge, force of blast conveyed through weapon stock has caused irreparable trauma to the bone structure of the right shoulder.

Recommend full prosthesis of right arm, right eye. Further recommend either medical discharge or indefinite medical leave pending psych eval.


After failing to pass her post-trauma psychological evaluation, Tyr received a medical discharge from the Ranger Corps. Following this, she left the New Meeren system and registered with the Core Systems Freelancer's Guild, based at Karic's Lagrange-3 colony cluster. Through a series of events I haven't yet decided upon, she ends up joining the crew of the Cirrus, as the crew's dedicated scout and sniper, with a perfectly reasonable aversion from energy weapons.
