Zaku II- Ver. Te by Tekka-Croe Zaku II- Ver. Te by Tekka-Croe
The "Ver. Te" means "Version: Tekka" of course.

Anyway, I was thinking about the original "Mobile Suit Gundam" and how much I loved the simplistic and practical (sorta) design of the Zaku II, the standard Zeon mobile suit. This here is how I interpret the design nowadays.

Sketched with .3mm(!) mechanical pencil, inked with a .2mm(!!) Micron pen, colored with Copic Sketch markers.

Cool! I like how bulky this zaku looks. I also like the "collar" around the neck. It reminds me a bit of the neo zeon designs in Unicorn.

Now that's a Zaku that lives up to its name; adapted the burly proportions of the Tierens or the Zeta-Era units, I suppose?

Spot on. The upper arms, in fact, are lifted directly from the Tieren. Same goes for that little spacer joint between the right shoulder and the shield, allowing the shield a greater range of motion.

I've never actually seen Zeta, but I do like a lot of the designs that it featured.

I guess most artists tend to focus on fanart of the characters from various Gundam series. As a conceptual/mechanical artist, I'm just more interested in mecha designs.

Have you by chance seen any of Rekkou's mecha art? Lotsa good stuff in there: [link]

Well, there are some things that I can do with pens and markers that I simply can't with a computer program.

yeah, even drawing pads have their limit...
Though, I admit, Photoshop CS4 is quite fun. We have it on our school's computers (Where they conjured the budget to pay for 20-something licenses, I don't know.) and I play around on it during the mornings. lol, it's kind of hard to explain to classmates though, when they walk past and I'm making a terrain heightmap...
