Spartan McCloud: Studies by Tekka-Croe Spartan McCloud: Studies by Tekka-Croe
Further development on one of the Spartan-IVs for the Halo story which I've been working to bring up-to-date with Halo 4.

For reference, my initial illustration can be seen here: [link]

I've refined the design of my custom leg armor, and done a more detailed sketch of the back-mounted thruster units. I've also decided to use a less Reach-looking color scheme. It looked great on the Mk-Vb armor, but no so much on the new Gen-2 armor. I'll be using this as the basis for a more refined reference down the road.

Torso- Recruit (Modified)
Helmet- ODST
Shoulders- Air Assault/VERGE
Forearms- XV-27 Shifting (Modified)
Legs- ??? (Presently unnamed variant)

Bonus: I also included the full version of Spartan McCloud out of her armor, which I had cropped down for that initial preview image.

Spartan Reina McCloud is pretty obviously an adaption of my OC, Reina Cloude ([link]), but several years older, and about a foot taller.

The custom Spartan armor I envision for my fan character has, instead of having two "wings" behind the shoulders, has a single "fin" between the shoulder blades with weapons hardpoints on either side. it is meant to look like a standard holder if he were ever to be actually physically running a flag into battle (think Samurai armor with the flag on the back)

I really like this though.
in Halo 4 I use
Pioneer head
Pioneer shoulders
Gungnir chest
Form Fitting legs
and I forget what wrist i use...

hi, i have a question I'd kinda like answered.

I've been trying to put a very official feeling spartan uniform together, and all I've really seen and heard about from the halo series, are these cargo type pants and UNSC T-shirt.

my question is, what is an official uniform?
for a spartan to wear at a formal event, for example, when chief met up with Lord Hood in halo 2, and he was wearing his armor, what would he have worn if not his armor?

In the original Halo trilogy, Spartan dress uniform would probably be more or less identical to Navy dress uniform, since the Spartans at the time were considered Naval personnel. In Halo 4, the Spartans have become their own branch of the UNSC military, so they'd probably have their own dress uniform. If I had to design it, I'd have it be modeled after the UNSC Marine dress uniform, but with black as its overall color.

and, what would be appropriate to put this patch on?

Yes, something like that, though I would give it a bit less ornamentation (I expect Spartans to be, well... "spartan" in appearance).

As for the patch, it depends on which Spartans your putting this uniform on. If they're Spartan-IIs, then the patch you linked to would be correct. I'm unsure if the Spartan-III and Spartan-IV programs have official patches, so in those cases you'd just have to make up your own patches.

I really like her. She is what a Spartan female would look like. Tough and not a complete... Well, non proportional slut :/ So thank you for making a woman who looks like a woman, not an overblown balloon with a tiny waist, giant backside, legs, arms, and a head.

I'm apologize that this is likely going to come across as really weird, but I absolutely adore how unfetishy and wholesomely utilitarian and practical your designs are for Reina's combat gear. It's an incredibly fresh breath of air. The confidence in her body language and obvious ability is attractive by itself.

Thanks, man.

I think it comes down to an issue of priorities when designing my characters: They're badass soldiers first and foremost. Whether they're men or women is secondary to that.

Only the proportions will be terrible.

I swear, they have digital models to work over, and yet they're too incompetent to add in the joints without extending or destroying the length of the limbs.

My thoughts on the new visual style are mixed, but positive overall. I like the sort of Japanese mecha-inspired surface details on the armor, especially. My complaint regarding the armor design is that a lot of the components just all seem the same, especially the shoulders. There's just not enough variation in size and shape to get a cool asymmetrical look, like in Reach. That, and a lot of the helmets are just kind of dumb. Beautiful, but dumb. (A perfect example is the "Oceanic" helmet: [link] It looks really good and is rendered beautifully, but it's also just kind of stupid that you'd base your space armor on a 19th Century diving helmet.)

An interesting thing I've read somewhere is that the armor was designed to take into account which areas of the human body flex, and which don't. That would explain why everything's the same size and shape.

For me, I'm a little iffy about the colors. It feels like the really strong colors of the new armors tend to overpower the detail that they have. That's just my opinion mind you. What some of the helmets are based off may be a little weird, but they certainly look quite visually striking.

Don't give me too much credit; most of the bodysuit is based directly on the in-game model. All I've done is given it a handful of little embellishments.
