Okay, so. I actually finished this beasty three months ago, but school and other things resulted in me putting off photographing and posting this until now.
This is a conversion in the same vein as my other Master Grade SEED variation, the Strike Venus. This time it's a conversion of the MG Gundam Astray Red Frame Kai. Unlike the Venus, however, this is far more than a simple re-color. Not only is the whole kit painted, it has involved a fair amount of physical modification.
For your viewing pleasure: Throughout the description, I've added links to detail photographs.
Head- Some mods are pretty basic: The V-crest sits a little flatter against the head, and the chin is shaved down so it doesn't protrude as far forward.
Feet- [link] The feet are a combination of the Red Frame's ankle joint and top cover, with the unused sole and heel of the blue frame's foot, included in the kit as spare parts (since the Red Frame and Blue Frame share most of their sprues). This involved not only adding paneling to sides of the top covers so they fit on the Blue Frame soles, but also chopping out the guts of the heels and shaving down the back of the ankle joint so they fit together. I then proceeded to seal up the gaps so they look all pretty.
Shield- The shield is just the re-painted shield from my MG Strike Gundam.
Rifle- [link] The Beam Rifle is a mod of Kotobukya's "Freestyle Gun" kit. I fabricated a scope and muzzle to give it a more "Gundam" look. I also modded a little connector peg that came with the gun set so that the rifle can be stored on the rear skirt armor.
Knives- These aren't really a mod, per se, but they, like some of the parts in the feet, were leftovers from the Blue Frame. I love knives too much to pass up such an opportunity.
Backpack- [link] The backpack is a combination kitbash/scratchbuild using parts from an old SD Astray kit, the MG Strike's AILE pack, and a couple spare polycap gaskets. I started with the backpack from the SD Astray, and filled in the gaps in it. I then started to build it up around the sides, and built in a housing for two polycap sockets. The polycaps hold the Beam Sabers and their attachment points from the AILE Strike. The backpack connects to a port on the Astray's upper back, with no need for glue.
This is certainly my most involved build yet, in terms of customization. It actually took longer than my PG 00 Raiser. I enjoy doing these SEED variations. There are so many Gundams running around the SEED universe that you can add your own variants to the pile without any issue. It's quite liberating. Next summer, be on the lookout for "Mars Impulse Gundam"

It was... it was..... it was.... Ohhhhhhhhhhh baby.
