'Big Steel Gorilla'

So you may be thinking "What's so special about this? It's just a suit of powered armor." But that's the thing- this isn't just a suit of powered armor. This is the suit of powered armor. That is to say, the one created by Robert Heinlein, in his sci-fi / military / philosophical masterpiece Starship Troopers.

The most description Heinlein gives of the armor's physical appearance is that it has a bowl helmet, and that when wearing it "...you look like a big steel gorilla." He does, however describe the armor's various functions and armaments in great detail. I've based my interpretation of Heinlein's powered armor on the information given about it in the 1st and 7th chapters of the novel.

Notable features from the book: Bowl-visor helmet, flip-up/down night vision optics ("snoopers"), backpack-mounted mortars/bomb launchers, arm-mounted flame thrower ("hand-flamer"), mini-nuke rocket launcher, and jump-jets throughout.

Oh, and Heinlein created this in 1959. You might notice that as being pretty much four decades before the concept of powered armor started breaking into the mainstream (Warhammer 40k is the most notorious early-adopter, which jumped on the bandwagon back in the 80's). Honestly, his descriptions of the powered armor are more high-tech and plausible than half the stuff in current hard-sci-fi.
